Yellowstone star joins Lawman: Bass Reeves cast

The legendary story of Bass Reeves was first announced in September of 2021. It was originally going to be named 1883: The Bass Reeves Story. Bass Reeves was a former black lawman from the west of the Mississippi River. Born a slave he one day became one of the most respected men of Indian Territory. The Arkansas man became famous for the number of criminals he captured in his time.

Who will be playing the legendary U.S. Marshall?

David Oyelowo rose to fame for his portrayal of Martin Luther King Jr. In the 2014 film Selma. His role in Selma earned Oyelowo an NCAAP Image Award winner for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture as well as a Golden Globe nomination and Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Actor. Oyelowo was also appointed as an officier of the Order of the British Empire. Taylor Sheridan has always known how to pick the best of the best for all his series. He is already flying high over the success of 1923 with Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford leading the way. Oyelowo will also be executive producing the project.

Yellowstone’s Moses Brings Plenty will also be joining the cast of Lawman: Bass Reeves. The Lakota film and television actor is most famously known for playing Mo in the main Yellowstone series. Mo has been a part of Yellowstone since season one. He has always been the secondhand man to Thomas Rainwater. Many have found him a fan favorite despite his limited role in the series. It will be exciting to see him opposite Bass Reeves.

What made Bass Reeves so famous in U.S. History?

According to a report by Deadline Mo will be playing a Native American friend to Bass Reeves named Minco Dodge. It will be very interesting to see this show come to life. Unlike the Dutton family that we are all so used to, the Bass Reeves story is one of legend and also real-life events. Bass Reeves was one of the most renowned lawmen of his time. The legend of The Lone Ranger was based upon. He became the first black man to serve as a Deputy U.S. Marshall.

Joining Mo and David will be other well-known actors Dennis Quaid and Donald Sutherland as well as The Walking Dead’s Margot Bingham. Dale Dickey and Tosin Morohunfola will also have recurring roles in Taylor Sheridan’s spinoff.
