Yellowstone star Kevin Costner speaks out about show's producers
By Shay McBryde
Yellowstone star Kevin Costner has finally spoken out about Season 5 of the series. It was a heartbreaking moment for Yellowstone fans to learn the show would mark its end in season 5.
Currently, Taylor Sheridan and company still have to film the last half of the season. It remains to be seen how much Kevin Costner will be a part of that. With all the off-camera issues it’s pretty evident that John Dutton won’t be making it out alive. We only hope that Sheridan can give our superstar cowboy the justice he deserves.
Kevin Costner spoke out during his divorce settlement about the money he is still owed from Yellowstone. He is threatening to sue the show's producers for the money he feels he is owed. In his child support hearing with wife Christine Baumgartner more information came out, information fans had been dying to know for months now.
Costner claims that he worked his schedule around for the first half of Yellowstone season 5. Beyond that, no scripts had been written for the back half of season 5. He has a “pay or play” clause which means regardless he should still receive the 12 million that was owed to him. The Yellowstone star revealed to People that he will most likely end up going to court over it. It doesn’t sound like he wanted to exit the series. It was a long hard fight of negotiations that ultimately led to his decision.
It has been no secret Kevin has wanted to spend more time focusing on his project Horizon. It’s a shame both parties couldn’t work on a better agreement after all Costner has given the show. It’s not the first time Sheridan has not seen eye-to-eye with the talent. While it’s sad to say goodbye there is still a big future in store for the Yellowstone franchise. The news that came out previously reported by many outlets was that Kevin Costner was the one who walked away from the franchise. In one last effort, he reached out to Yellowstone's representatives and did want to return for a season 6. He was willing to negotiate on financial terms but it was Yellowstone who walked away from him.
"“I’ve been told it’s a little disappointing that [it’s] the #1 show on TV, I’m not participating.”"
- Kevin Costner
It will be intriguing to see how John Dutton goes. We all look forward to Horizon: An American Saga. Costner was hoping for a release date this fall but there is still no confirmed date for the multi-film project. There is nothing Kevin Costner does that isn’t great. As fans, we were all blessed to know John Dutton and his story will now live on through his children and his grandchildren.
Yellowstone is set to jump back into filming as soon as the SAG-AFTRA strike is over and everyone has reached an agreement. Let’s not forget how important the strike is to everybody in the industry. As both writers and directors Taylor Sheridan and Kevin Coster both know how vital it is to entertainment.
John Dutton will always be Yellowstone. Kevin Costner is the sole reason for that. As always follow us for future Yellowstone news!
